Cirro Energy | Helping Your Kids Succeed in School

9.9At Cirro Energy, we know that helping kids succeed in school is a big priority for parents. Parents can help set the tone for their kids’ approach to school and learning.  As we are crusing through another school year this September, which has been designated “National School Success Month”, Cirro Energy has some suggestions to help your child have the very best school experience possible.

The first step in ensuring your child’s school success is to create an environment that helps him or her to learn. Start with making sure they get enough sleep, eat a good breakfast, and leave for school with all the necessary books and supplies. Each day, check your child’s school bag for information, homework and completed work, and maintain communication with teachers. Get involved in your child’s school, whether volunteering, joining the PTA or asking the teacher what is needed for the classroom. Help your child with homework at night, encourage him or her to participate in extracurricular activities, and to help pack school bags and lunches the night before so that mornings can go smoothly. Additionally, instill in your child a love of learning by finding ways to incorporate it into your everyday lives in fun ways.

Success in school is more than just academic success. In fact, you can break it down into four key areas:

  • Behavior: Help your children work on self-control and appropriate classroom behavior, in order to prepare them for school. Listen to them, and if they’re struggling, try to get the bottom of any problems. Sometimes, improving behavior can be related to getting a pair of glasses or seeking out after-school tutoring.
  • Classwork: If your child is having trouble completing classwork, talk to the teacher to find out what’s at the root of the issue. It’s possible that your child needs to change seats or needs special study conditions, like working in  a more secluded area to avoid distraction.
  • Friends: Sometimes social factors can lend to a child having trouble in school. Get to know your child’s friends, and talk to your children to find out if they are having any trouble “fitting in” or feeling comfortable at school. Involvement in extracurricular activities can help children to form lasting bonds with like-minded kids.
  • Home: Families have problems from time to time, and modeling good problem solving is the best thing you can do for your children. You can also show them healthy ways to manage stress and set goals.

Help your child get the very best start by instilling a love of learning that will help them to succeed in school.
