Cirro Energy, a subsidiary of Dominion Resources, is using social media to help Texas children in need with its “Little Angels Tree” campaign. Through Dec. 18, 2012, individuals are asked to post a photo of their favorite holiday tree ornament on the Retail Electric Provider’s Facebook account. Cirro Energy will donate $5 for each ornament post, up to $10,000 total, to three children’s charities, Plano Children’s Medical Clinic, Kids Meals of Houston and Community Partners of Dallas.

Charity for Children

“We want to help thousands of at-risk children throughout Texas this Holiday season,” said Cindi Wakefield, spokesperson for Cirro Energy. “In addition to donating time and money this year, we hope to rally the community with the ‘Little Angels Tree’ campaign. By inviting the public to engage in Cirro Energy’s donation to three non-profits that focus on children, we hope to spark more grassroots support for our local little angels.”

Cirro Energy is a strong supporter of the communities it serves. From volunteering time to donating money, Cirro Energy has helped non-profits improve the lives of fellow Texans. This Holiday season, it’s using a new, more social approach.

“Social media is the perfect way to engage people and promote awareness in charitable opportunities during the holidays,” Wakefield said. “From November 28 through December 18, anyone can post a photo of a favorite ornament for the ‘Little Angels Tree’ on our Facebook page. Each post will represent a $5 donation. There is no cost to the person who shares a favorite ornament photo.”

Community Partners of Dallas is dedicated to ensuring safety and restoring dignity and hope to abused and neglected children. It provided resources and support to more than 20,000 children last year.

In Houston, Kids’ Meals delivers nutritious meals to the doors of children in need, free of cost. Texas’ only meals-on-wheels service for children, the organization provides healthy home-delivered lunches to about 1,700 children daily under the age of five who live in poverty.

Plano Children’s Medical Clinic provides high quality primary medical care for children in need on Medicaid, CHIP or without insurance. Its healthcare providers have seen over 100,000 children for well-visits, sick-care and immunizations.

Cirro Energy Involved in Disaster Relief

The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy has destroyed homes along the east coast and left millions without power, making it the second costliest hurricane in US history.  Now Cirro Energy and its parent company Dominion are working to support disaster relief efforts and get people the help they need.

During the widespread power outages caused by Sandy at the end of October, Dominion worked around the clock to restore power to more than 320,000 customers along the east coast.  Power was fully restored by the first day of November.

However, even with power up and running again in most places, the battle isn’t over. Dominion has donated an additional $25,000 to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts in New Jersey and New York, and also several $10,000 grants to relief efforts in Connecticut, Maryland, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Additionally, crews were deployed to provide labor for cleanup and restoration projects in impacted areas.  Locally in Texas, Cirro Energy employees created “Jeans for our Northeast Friends,” a fundraiser hosted by the Cirro family the week of Nov. 12 – 16 to raise money for families affected by Sandy. Dominion is also committed to matching employee donations to nonprofit groups for disaster relief.
